Two members of Coutts Four released after plea deal, major charges dropped

Chris Lysak and Jerry Morin, members of the Coutts Four, were initially charged with conspiracy to commit murder but have since entered plea deals on lesser charges, leading to their release. The original charges were dropped, and Lysak pleaded guilty to a restricted weapons charge, while Morin pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic a firearm. Their sentences were the equivalent of the time they had already spent in custody, with Lysak's sentence being three years and Morin's approximately three and a half years. This calculation includes credit for time served pre-trial, with a standard credit of 1.5 days for each day in custody. Additionally, Morin received extra credit for 74 days spent in solitary confinement, which counted as three days each. The plea deal and sentences were agreed upon by both the Crown prosecutors and the defence, with Justice Vaughan Hartigan accepting the joint recommendation.
